Ang Thong is 108 km from Bangkok ,located along the Noi River and the low-lying banks of the Chao Phraya River. Historically, Ang Thong was an essential frontier outpost of the Ayutthaya Kingdom in defense against the Burmese. Ang Thong also features more than 200 magnificent and historical temples. Ang Thong receives much rain during the rainy season and the two rivers and their subsidiary canals provide enough water to the sandy soil to produces abundant rice crops.
Wat Muang was constructed since 1687 and restored in 1984. located 8 kilometers from downtown. It is famous for the magnificent biggest Buddha image. The Ubosot of Wat Muang is surrounded by the biggest lotus petals in the world. Ground floor is a museum (open only on Saturday and Sunday) exhibiting sacred objects, and figures of renowned monks from all over the country. The upper floor of the museum houses the first and largest silver holy Buddha image of the country, which was constructed in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of His Majesty the Kings throne ascendancy. Within the temple compound, there are figures of heaven and hell, Thai god paradise, Chinese god paradise, and a huge statue of Kuan Im female goddess. Don’t miss !
Wat Khun Inthapramun is 11 kilometers from the city. This temple is known for the impressive 50 meter long reclining Buddha in the open air of the rice fields having no roof due to the Wiharn housing the image being in ruins.
In front of this image lies a statue of a man who, according to the legend, is Khun Inthapramun, a revenue officer who secretly took away the official money to enlarge the original 40 meters construction of the image. When the king heard about that and interrogated him where from he obtained the money he did not answer and was whipped to death, thus originating the name of this monastery as Wat Khun Inthapramun.
Supanburi is 100 km away from Bangkok. The town is rich in natural and historical heritage. The city itself dates back to the 9th century and the province was once an important border town during the period of the Ayutthaya kingdom; consequently many battles of important wars were waged in the province. Plenty of water in river and full of rice fields. Visitors can get a taste of the local culture by trying Sali Supan, the famous local-style cake.
